1. Inspect Eavestroughs

Your Eavestroughs are a very important part of your home! The most important function of eavestroughs is that they direct water away from the foundation of your house. If they are clogged up or full of leaves they can’t do their job properly. If they are that clogged up this could mean that you’ve waited too long to perform maintenance on them.

2. Shut off outdoor water systems

Before it gets too cold, it is important to make sure any outdoor water systems are shut off, since they could freeze and lead to a burst pipe. Make sure to disconnect your garden hose from the faucet, as this is one of the things most people forget to do!

3. Check weather stripping on doors and windows

Weather stripping on doors and windows are there to keep these areas sealed. The reason it is important for these to be repaired whenever needed is that they keep drafts and moisture out; this saves you a lot on energy bills! The fall is the best time to check these areas.

4. Inspect Roof

Roof inspection is an essential part of home maintenance. Any roofing issues, if addressed straight away, are usually not too expensive. However, when they are left so long that the roof basically needs to be replaced, they could cost you more money than expected. One specific thing to look out for, is shingles that have blown off the roof.
