What to Consider Before a Custom Build
If you’re interested in a custom build with Dan Clayton Homes, it’s important to understand what the process will entail. Custom building isn’t for everyone — you won’t have a model home to tour beforehand and it can take six months or more to move into your new house. If you’re looking to move in right away, another one of our designs might be a better option.
Here are a few things to consider before choosing a custom build:
You should have a clear vision of what you want.
Custom home builders should be excited about the planning phase of the project. If you’re the type of person who already has a scrapbook of your dream home ideas, then you’re good to go!
You will need time and patience throughout the process
Choosing every detail of your home can be a lengthy endeavour. There will be many decisions to make, so you should be prepared to spend time in order to achieve a great end result.
You should be prepared to pay for what you want
A custom home will be more expensive than an ordinary new build home, but it doesn’t need to cost a fortune. It all depends on the features you’re looking to include.

Our Custom Build Process
The custom building process can be both creative and rewarding. The team at Dan Clayton Homes will work closely with you to ensure that your vision becomes a reality. Here are the main steps you can expect:
The process starts with an initial meeting and consultation with our team. At DCH, we pride ourselves on being friendly, approachable, and accommodating to your needs. This first meeting is about understanding your vision and determining how to bring it to life.
2 Design Plan
The next stage of the process is planning the design of your new home, including lot and location, floor plans, interior design, exterior aspects, and landscaping. We want your custom home to include all of the features and elements that you’ve always imagined — and we’ll work hard to accommodate them into the plan.
After you have an opportunity to review and offer feedback on our plan, the next step is signing the contract. Our team’s goal is to deliver a contract that provides peace of mind and ensures that there are no surprises at the end of the process — we’re committed to staying on time and on budget.
Construction can be a lengthy process. You won’t get your first look at your house until the framing is finished, and it can take some time to complete all the interior and exterior finishes. Throughout the process, our team will keep you updated so you will always know what’s happening and stay up-to-date on any developments.
Once your new home is fully-built, it is time for you to move-in! At DCH, our team is committed to making the closing and move-in process simple, straightforward, and efficient. We are here to provide support with any final changes and help you get settled in your new home.
